THE GARDENS

The 18th Century manor house is set amidst landscaped gardens, parkland and a lake with an island.

The grounds and ornamental lake were laid out centuries ago and have been preserved as a labour of love, giving pleasure and providing scope for childhood dens and adventures. Beyond the summer house, the Victorian terrace provides a level place to stroll and from the far end an intriguing path leads through rhododendrons down to the woods and lake.

SUMMER HOUSE

From the first floor, granite steps pass down past rare camellias and neat box hedging where an outside table and chairs are placed ready for breakfast in this early morning sun trap.

Gravel paths lead on past the magnolia tree and palms to the intimate setting of the summer house and south facing side lawn sheltered by the walls of the old kitchen garden. There is a swing seat in the summer house and deck chairs. A sturdy picnic table with sun umbrella sits next to the BBQ and overlooking the lawn. The nearby greenhouse is full of scented geraniums and exotic plants.

WOODLAND

Whatever the time of year the woodland walk is full of glorious flowers and surprises, studded with primroses, camellias, bluebells, rhododendrons and lilies.

The sub-tropical winters allow carefully nurtured tree ferns, palms and even a banana tree to flourish. Benches are provided so you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere.

THE LAKE

The lake has a rowing boat moored at one side to enable guests to row to the central island or just to cool off in the dappled shade of the trees and wait to spot the kingfisher, or woodpeckers.

From the lake a tree lined avenue known as the daffodil walk due to its abundance of early spring flowers leads back to the front of the house and the large circular front lawn.

We have had such a fantastic time I really do not want to go home. The house is magnificent and the gardens are out of this world. We didn’t visit many places as we didn’t want to leave this lovely place. The lake was paradise.
Nancealverne House was once again the perfect holiday house for us. Very comfortable, clean and full of history. We enjoyed everyday especially watching the series Poldark. They should really film at Nancealverne House!!! Thank you family Armstrong for making this house one of the best in Cornwall!!

Our loveliest holiday yet at Nancealverne. This really is a most attractive and relaxing home in which to stay and we never cease to delight in all that it has to offer.
Nancealverne is so impressive - enchanting would not be too strong a word! I doubt there is any other holiday home like it!

Looking out from the front windows seemed like going back 100 years in time. I felt like I was actually in 'Pride and Prejudice'!
First impression on arriving at Nancealverne House - stunning... such a beautiful house. It has been filled with fun and laughter, afternoon tea and BBQs, boating on the lake, adventures in the woods and we hope to return.
