Nancealverne House

Nancealverne House was generously gifted to Cornwall Heritage Trust by the Scobell Armstrong family in 2026, securing the future of one of west Cornwall’s most remarkable historic homes. Set within 14 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland near Penzance, Nancealverne House is a Grade II* listed manor with origins dating back to Elizabethan times. The house was substantially enlarged during the 18th century, with further improvements funded through prize money awarded after Battle of the Nile, creating the elegant Georgian home seen today.

For centuries, Nancealverne has been home to generations connected with Cornwall’s military, mining, and legal history. Soldiers, tin mining entrepreneurs, theatrical players, house keepers and gardeners all shaped the story of the estate, and portraits of many of the Scobell Armstrong family members can be seen within the house.

Today, visitors can experience a rare combination of architectural beauty, family history and Cornish heritage. From the sweeping drive and landscaped grounds to the grand Georgian rooms filled with light from tall 18th-century windows, Nancealverne offers a unique glimpse into the lives of those who lived here and the changing story of Cornwall itself.
